ready, steady… erm

So, the first part of the RBRR has been done for us. Team 40 are trying to do a couple of extra bits to raise money and today stage one was completed.

At 11:30 this morning I borrowed the TR and buzzed into town to pick up Mr Dave (of “I eat rusty Spitfires” fame) and we headed off to Thurleigh, just north of Bedford. Todays plan was rather simple, climb 125ft to the top of Bodyflight’s tower and then jump off. The tower itself was built in 1950 so engineers could design a way to help control flat spin in planes. If you want to know more about click below;

After hanging around for a bit we were led into a room where we were kitted out in safety gear – helmets, guide ropes, testicle destroying harnesses, etc. Then led into a lift which took us above the turbine of the tower. Two short and steep ladders later and we were on the roof, walking around and then one-by-one down a short ladder on the side of the building and onto the platform we were to jump from. It was planned for me to go first but Mr Dave was in front so had the joy of being test dummy, which he did rather well! Fair play, he had almost no fear and just got on with it. Then it was my turn. I surprised myself by having no fear of the ladders, the heights, the rickety platform. But for some odd reason my brain was telling me walking out onto thin air was a little silly. I think my biggest mistake was always looking down and not at the horizon. Anyhoo, one false step (in fact, you may be able to hear me tell the instructor that I’m “shitting myself”), a few jokes with the instructor and then I went. I HATED the stomach feeling. The one you get when going over humped bridges fast in a car, but worse. Still, was fun and I didn’t go splat. I’m NOT looking forward to the 300ft bungee jump or the line drop from a plane later. It’s going to take a huge amount of effort for me to do it but we’ll see. I’ll hate myself if I bottle it. We’re trying to talk Darren into doing the bungee, so feel free to give him a “push” when you see him. And if anyone wants to join us let us know. And, if you want to sponsor us please do so (first time the link has been flashed around) – http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/team/40

Righto, some pictures and a video. 🙂
